HDR Photography

From yesterday I wanted to try HDR. Since I did not go out I did not get any photographic location or very good place to shoot,
any way I was so tempt to try this feature and today morning I found little bit time to do the work, I did not go out but I captured this ugly view from office building to try this future, when I shoot good one surely I will update this blog again. I have followed some instruction from http://backingwinds.blogspot.com/2006/10/how-to-create-professional-hdr-images.html but I tried automatic HDR in photoshop but it did not give good result, this photo I have made manually some how it is better than automatic.

HDR is a technique which combines several photos of the same subject taken at different exposures: The darker pictures have details in the highlights and vice versa. Combining these gives a photograph a tonal range which is impossible from a single image, with an almost surreal amount of detail everywhere.

The Al Thani Awards for Photography 2009, one of the world’s leading competitions for photography organized by FIAP (Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique - International Federation of Photographic Art) on an annual basis, saw Sri Lanka emerge victorious in the International Award in colour photography category when Priyankara Gamage won Gold.

The only contestant from the South East Asia Region to win a Gold award in the entire competition, Mr. Gamage said, “I am traditionally a wedding photographer, but decided to enter this competition for the first time this year when I heard about it online and through local photography societies. I entered 8 entries under the general section according to the year’s theme ‘Daily Routine’, of which 2 were nominated and one won Gold. With over 14,000 entries for the competition this year, I am thrilled and proud to have honoured my country and my profession with this award, and sincerely thank Kodak Sri Lanka for their support and premium products which I am confident gave me a winning edge.”

Said Tyrone Perera, Country Manager, Kodak Sri Lanka, “I am extremely pleased to have played a key role in achieving this landmark moment for photography in Sri Lanka. We have always strived to actively support and empower the local photographic community, and it gives me the greatest pleasure to note that this award is a physical embodiment of our efforts to leverage the industry.”

Speaking of future plans to empower more in the industry to reach international recognition for photography, R. Ganesh, General Manager, Digital Capture & Devices and Film Capture, CDG-India Cluster, said, “This is a prestigious award, and a significant occasion for the Sri Lankan photographic industry. The fact that the entry was printed through a Kodak Express outlet is an added source of satisfaction. As the leading photo imaging company in Sri Lanka, it is an honour to be associated with professional photographers, and we look forward to helping more photographers advance in their career and their achievements.”

Said Roshan Fernando, Proprietor of VISART Digital Colour Lab, an exclusive Kodak Express photo finishing outlet, “As the Kodak Express outlet that printed Mr. Gamage’s entries, I am pleased that his winning entry was on Kodak Supra Endura paper, and I enthusiastically look forward to being a part of new and exciting achievements with more Kodak products.”

Delano Dias, Director, Millers Ltd, the sole distributor of Kodak products in Sri Lanka, said, “Kodak Supra Endura paper is the most premium photographic paper in the world, renowned for the highest quality, and the prints can last up to 200 years under the right storing conditions. The paper is very popular in the professional printing space and is leading in this market. We have been the sole distributors for Kodak for over 70 years now, and have no doubt that Kodak will continue to elevate the market with superior products.”

Yuri Arcurs

Today I was just digging about to study some photography techniques and found a professional photographer called "YURI ARCURS".

Yuri Arcurs is the world’s most successful microstock photographer. He sells over 1,4million individual licenses per year (about 2,000 per day) and his clients include Time Magazine, MTV, Sony, MSN.com, Microsoft, Canon, Samsung, Hewlett Packard, Tyra Banks Show, Late Night Show and many more. Back in 2005 a Google search for “Yuri Arcurs” gave zero search results. Today that same search generates close to 150000 hits. His unusual success is due to a combination of unique imagery and savvy business sense.

I would like to share some of his videos and photos, if you want to know more information about him please visit his website at http://www.arcurs.com/

My PhotoSaf.com success story.

Dear Friends,

I would like to share with you all my new development http://www.PhotoSaf.com, Yes, it is a website I just developed for me to share my photography experience with you all. I was posting photos to flicker, facebook & other websites but I am not happy with all this since I can not do it in my own way like I can not post original RAW file, I can not consolidate valuable comments, I can not keep my own categories and labels, I can not share with none registered members and so on.

So finally I decided being a professional PHP programmer why should I not develop my own coding for my own photos to host in my own style. And also I was thinking what if I loose my RAW files in my computer after spending lots of time to take a good photo (some times I spend hours to take a good shot), with this website now one copy is online and encrypted and safe. If my computer fails I have online copy, if online copy fails I have my computer (if both fails I have backup DVDs ;).

With all this work it is not easy to finish a my own project, I have to go to work and in office I cant even think of my project since I am full with millions of official assignment and I don't even have time to check facebook or my private emails. In office if I open my office email there will be hundreds of email to attend. At home also I have only Friday to do all this work but again I have my family things on Friday and have to spend time with wife and kids.

If I spend full time on this project this is a less than 3 days work for me (Ohh I did http://www.a2zpicturegallery.com in one day without sleeping). Anyhow to finish http://www.PhotoSaf.com it took around 6 months (May be more). you must be thinking ohhh.. shit 6 months? yes I started this website when I bought the camera and that time we were living in Dhilasa Villa (my previous house name), there is a old saying good things take time. I spend most of my time to do this website very early morning 6am to 8am while watching news. Normally I wakeup around 4:45am and go to mosque to pray Fajr then come home around 5:15am and until 6am reciting Quran and then only I will open my laptop. Again 7am to 8am my kids swimming class (this started recently and most of the day teacher will be missing).

With this busy life I manage to finish this project somehow, I was very happy to give a life to this website finally he he. I have to thank my friend Nalin because he always checked the website and gave me creative ideas, Hisham gave me push-up to finish and my wife Silmiya sacrificed her time, corrected English and gave some brilliant ideas (some times when I open the Laptop she will shout that is a different story he he).

So please enjoy the site, I hope you will like this website and if you have any comments/suggestion you can send a mail to admin[@]photosaf.com so I can improve if anything to improve and if you are a photographer and if you like to have a website like this please let me know I would love to give this code to any photographer free of charge and I can assist to configure the site (only in Fridays).

Thank you for taking your valuable time to read my success story.

This is one of my favorites shot, unfortunately I couldn't take my tripod and I was running here and there to take a nice shot and kept my camera since people are around and so tight I couldn't keep steady for a long shutter speed, this angle is not the best but here is the only place people are not around and found a place to keep the camera steady.
